3D Scanning in Peterborough.

Complex cast surfaces, freeform geometry and missing CAD need a considered capture method. Our Peterborough team uses scanning to support reverse engineering, then turns the useful geometry into a manufacturing brief.

Peterborough · Engineering support

Capture the shape. Understand the part.

Bring your component to our Peterborough team by arrangement. We review its size, surface condition and accessible features before choosing a capture approach. The purpose of the scan matters: a visual reference, a fit check and a replacement design need different levels of engineering work.

Surface data is one input to reverse engineering. We still need to establish the material, working clearances and any geometry lost through wear, then agree the CAD and drawing deliverables with you.

Made by engineers, not just designed by them

A generic job shop makes what is on the drawing. An overseas quote looks cheap until you count the lead time, the freight and the cost of a part that comes back not quite right. MV is built for the harder problem: no drawing, a part that has failed for a reason no one has diagnosed, and a machine that cannot wait.

Complex satin aluminium manifold with angled ports and machined pockets
Oil and gas
Fabricated stainless steel manifold with visible TIG weld beads
Food machinery
Assembled transmission module with shafts, bearing housings and a timing belt
Factory machinery
Folded stainless steel chassis with louvres, mounting tabs and cable apertures
Electrical engineering
Ribbed aluminium housing with a genuine matte as-cast surface
Heavy equipment

Obsolete part replacement

Why engineers choose MV Manufacturing

Icon representing reverse engineering expertise

Reverse engineering, not guesswork

We measure the part itself and diagnose why it failed, then improve the design where the original was the weak point.

Icon representing a single point of contact

One point of contact

You deal directly with our engineering team, with one point of contact to keep the work clear and coordinated.

Icon representing choosing the right manufacturing process

The right process for the part

Our engineers choose the manufacturing route around the geometry, material, quantity and working requirements of your part.

How a part becomes better than the original

One engineering team takes your part from the moment it lands with us to the moment it ships. You deal with the people doing the work, not a sales desk, and reverse engineering sits at the centre of every step.

Send us the part.

Send the part, a sample or a drawing. Even a photograph and a note on what failed gives us enough to start. No drawings or CAD, no problem, the part is the brief.

We reverse engineer it.

We measure it precisely and rebuild it in CAD, check the material, then work out why it failed and where the original design can be improved.

One team to measure, model and make your part

Most parts that come through MV start as a problem rather than a drawing. We take the work from first measurement to finished, inspected component, and we choose the process to suit the part rather than forcing the part to suit one machine. Reverse engineering leads everything we do. The rest of our capabilities exist to make whatever that work demands.

What makes us the right choice

Getting the part made is one thing. What brings engineers back is how the part performs, where it is made and whether it arrives when we said it would.

Worn and rebuilt steel gears with matching opposed keyways on a charcoal studio surface

Rebuilt better than the original

Where the original carried a weak point, we design it out. The replacement is built to run longer than the original.

Finished complex components securely fitted in protective transit foam

Made in Peterborough, not offshore

UK-based, so lead times, communication and accountability stay close to home.

A studio arrangement of matching complex machined manifold housings

On time or early, every time

Over 100,000 parts delivered, on time or early every time, an average of 1.5 days ahead.

Practical answers

Working with MV from Peterborough

Have a part in mind? Speak directly with our engineering team.

Ask an engineer →
01Where is MV based, and do you serve Peterborough?

MV Manufacturing Solutions is based at Unit 3, Belgic Square, Padholme Rd E, Peterborough PE1 5XF. Contact the team before travelling so we can agree how to receive your part and what information to bring.

02Does a 3D scan produce a manufacturing-ready CAD model?

A scan records surface geometry. It does not automatically establish design intent, fits, material or the original unworn dimensions. CAD reconstruction and engineering review turn useful scan data into a model and drawing suitable for the agreed next step.

03What should I send with my enquiry?

Send clear photographs, the quantity required, your preferred delivery date and a short explanation of the application. Include any CAD files, drawings, part numbers or surviving specifications. If the part has failed, describe what happened and whether you have a mating component available.

04How do I get a sample to your team?

Contact us before sending a physical part. We will confirm the receiving details and discuss suitable handling for its size and condition. Include your contact details and a reference to the enquiry. Large, fragile or unusually heavy components need arrangements agreed individually.

05Can you improve a component rather than copy its faults?

We can review opportunities to improve material, geometry or manufacture as part of the engineering work. A change must be considered against fit, function and the wider assembly. We agree the proposed specification with you before making a replacement, rather than silently changing the original design.

06What should I explain about machine downtime?

If a production machine is waiting on an obsolete shaft or housing, start with photographs and a description of the failure. We establish what can be recovered from the sample and what must be checked against its mating parts. Add photographs that show the part in context, together with any known dimensions, operating conditions and restrictions on the replacement.

07Can you scan shiny, dark or difficult surfaces?

Surface reflectivity, colour, access and part condition can affect the capture method. Send photographs and the approximate size before arranging a sample. We will discuss any preparation and identify surfaces or hidden features that need another approach.

08Can you work with a one-off component or a repeat order?

We review both individual replacement parts and requirements for repeat manufacture. The cost and suitable process depend on the work involved. A first article or prototype may be useful before a larger order, with the approval criteria agreed in advance.

09How are lead times and delivery agreed?

We confirm timing for the specific job after reviewing the sample or design, material availability, manufacturing route and inspection requirements. Tell us about a shutdown or required installation date at enquiry stage. Transport arrangements and any staged deliveries are agreed as part of the job.

10What inspection and documentation can be included?

Specify the critical dimensions, material records and inspection information you require when asking for a quote. We agree which checks and documents form part of the order. Where the work needs a particular standard or certification, that requirement must be reviewed before acceptance.
